Smilo is a home made Thermomix chocolate powder that is sure to make you and your family happy!
The taste is like a cross between commercial Milo and Cadbury Drinking Chocolate, yet this version contains no additives, preservatives, dairy or grains.
It has been a very popular recipe here on the site for several years now and for good reason.
It works well to make warm or cold chocolate drinks. For a cold choc, simply add 2 tsp to a glass of cold milk. For a warm choc, you can either add boiling water and some milk to 2 tsp of this Thermomix chocolate powder. Alternatively, you can warm the milk and Smilo in your Thermomix to about 60C.
Don’t be put off by the high sugar content, the amount you use in each drink is small!

Hi,
Would you be able to use Monkfruit or Natvia/Stevia in place of Coconut sugar?
Hi
Can I use vanilla extract if so how much it’s liquid or can I use vanilla paste if so much? Thanks
Hey Kimberly, I’ve seen people using extract in this successfully BUT would be a little hesitant since it’s liquid and my gut feel is the possibility of mould is a concern.
My kids can’t get enough of this. Ive substituted the coconut sugar with raw sugar when Ive run out and kids didn’t notice a change.
Making a batch now. We’ve (I’ve) missed it in our house. Just in time for the cold weather. Mmmmmm
What does MC mean ?
Measuring Cup – the little plastic cup in the centre of the lid of your Thermomix 🙂
We only have vanilla essence at home at the moment so I have been making ‘elixir of smilo’ using a tbs of vanilla essence in lieu of the vanilla powder. The first time we made it I used ingredients I had available (generic brand cocoa powder and sugar… backed off the amount to 1 cup)… i called it ”essence of $Milo’… cooked it by melting sugar into a cup of water for a few minutes at 100c then adding cocoa/cocao letting it reduce for a few minutes. Turning off heat adding a tbs vanilla essence and musing for 5 seconds then pour into a jar and refrigerate… the Cheapie version was a hit last fortnight it’s been loved by all I made both tonight and plan to change them up and get more feedback. Love even if it takes a while on the Cheapie… I still know everything that goes into it and unlike Milo it’s complete gluten and dairy free. Ps I liked it with my df milk as I was ‘cleaning out the Joel’s tonight.
Clever!
I love this recipe!! My kids love it hot or cold. I’ve just made it for family members as an Xmas present. I will never buy commercial drinking chocolate again!
Has anyone made this with a sugar alternative, like Natvia? Thank you
